A Rainy Start and a Quick Detour

This morning, when I walked into the faculty room, the first thing I did was open the window. It was raining, and since I’ve always found rain calming, I just wanted to hear it—it helps me feel at ease. But it wasn’t just the rain. Birds were chirping outside too, adding to the peaceful atmosphere. It felt like the perfect soundtrack to begin the day.

I opened my laptop and got started with some administrative tasks and studying—there’s still quite a bit I need to learn. A few of my colleagues trickled in as the room slowly came to life. My first two classes were cancelled today because those students were away for a skill assessment test, which gave me a bit of extra time in the morning.

But, of course, not everything went according to plan. My wife messaged me to say I’d left our food containers at home. After a bit of back-and-forth and a chat with the doorman, I decided to head back and pick them up—especially since I had ordered two portions of lunch for today. Luckily, traffic was light, and I made it back just in time to start my class without any delays.

After finishing my final classes—and dealing with a small issue involving one of my students—I headed home.

What I have learnt from this day is that even if something messes up our plans, things can turn out well.
